Canon U.S.A. Inc. on Thursday introduced two new color flatbed scanners aimed at consumers looking to archive old family snapshots or other material they want to keep digitally. The CanoScan LiDE 25 and CanoScan LiDE 60 are both expected to hit store shelves this month, for US$49.99 and $79.99 respectively. Both systems are compatible with Mac OS X v10.2 or higher.
The CanoScan LiDE 25 is a low-power unit that uses a single USB cable for power and data transfer. It measures 1.3-inches high and features front-mounted buttons to automate scanning tasks. The device features built-in technology that can compensate for dust and scratches. The lid can expand by one inch to accommodate bulkier items like books and magazines. It features a 1200 x 2400 dot-per-inch resolution and 48-bit input color depth, and comes with Canon’s CanoScan Toolbox 4.9, ScanGear CS 11.0 driver and other software.
The CanoScan LiDE 60 features USB 2.0 connectivity, 1200 x 2400 DPI resolution, 48-bit color depth and expansion top. It also features a desktop stand that allows it to be mounted vertically, four front-mounted buttons, faster scanning speed than the LiDE 25, and “Multi-Scan mode,” which allows users to scan multiple images simultaneously, with each image saved as an individual file. Like the LiDE 25, the LiDE 60 touts automatic retouching technology that removes dust and scratches from older originals.
