Pittsburgh, Penn.-based Wizzard Software on Thursday announced that AT&T Natural Voices will soon be available for Mac OS X in English, French, German and Spanish. The text to speech technology is intended to be licensed to Mac OS X application software developers.
Mac OS X already features its own text to speech technology, which converts text to audible spoken words using a variety of built-in voices. The technology is handy for visually impaired users, and has also been used in software applications that convert tracts of text to audio files for podcasting.
AT&T Natural Voices is a supplemental text to speech technology that Wizzard Software claims is higher-quality than what Mac OS X users and developers already have access to. What’s more, it features “plug and play” language support.
Wizzard Software hopes the software development kit (SDK) will appeal to developers of software products for vertical markets like accessibility, buisness automation, security systems and education. Pricing was not announced, but developers interested in licensing the technology are directed to contact Wizzard Software’s sales department.
