The NEC MultiSync LCD1770NX,a 17-inch dual input (digital and analog) LCD display, has a 1,280-by-1,024-pixel resolution, integrated USB 2.0 hub, and a thin-bezel design. It is available in either silver or black for a very moderate price of $365, or with the Soundbar 70, a set of speakers, available for $39 as an option. You can also get the speakers pre-installed for an extra $25. The speaker hardware clips onto the display and plugs into the back of the monitor.
The LCD1770NX model has a circular base, smooth, rounded edges with easy height and tilt and swivel adjustability. This display does not pivot.
Straight out of the box, and without adjustment, the LCD1770NX display had a distinct blue cast, most noticeable in gray areas of an image. However, I was able to achieve a good neutral gray and accurate color using the manual calibration controls on the front of the display.
The viewing angle loses contrast pretty quickly when moving left to right in front of the screen, but I found text to be very legible, even at small point sizes.
Macworld’s buying advice
Although it required a little tweaking to correctly calibrate its colors, the MultiSync LCD1770NX, with its reasonable price and good performance, is a very good, general-purpose LCD display.
