New York-based Antepo Inc. on Monday announced its Open Presence Network (OPN) System offers native support for the version of iChat included with Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger.” This enables Tiger users to communicate with OPN System-based enterprise messaging right out of the box, according to Antepo.
OPN System and Tiger iChat both support Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP), which is why the connectivity is seamless, according to Antepo’s CEO and chairman, Maxime Seguineau. Seguineau said that Apple’s support of XMPP is indicative of a general shift away from IM gateways and towards standards-based platforms.
“This is becoming increasingly important for enterprises as global diversification and widespread partner networks build a growing demand for non-disruptive integration and connectivity,” said Seguineau in a statement.
OPN System provides security and compliance requirements, offering IT managers control over user authentication, identity management, message logging, encryption and other key features. OPN System supports Unix, Linux and Windows operating systems, and integrates with Microsoft Exchange 5.5, Active Directory, eTrust, Sun Identity Server and other LDAP implementations.
