SolidWorks Corp. on Monday announced Mac OS X v10.4 support for eDrawings, its software for viewing CAD images. The viewer software is a free download, available as a public beta release. It’s compatible with Mac OS X v10.3 and higher.
The eDrawings line is used by engineers and others to share 3D models created using computer-aided design (CAD) software like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, Autodesk Inventor and others. The Viewer application also reads native DWG and DXF files, and lets users rotate and view design files from any angle.
SolidWorks hopes that the eDrawings Viewer software will “bridge the communications gap” between product design teams working with PC-centric CAD software and graphics teams who are using the Mac to create conceptual designs, marketing materials and other collateral.
