Toast and Popcorn maker Roxio on Thursday introduced The Boom Box, a collection of five previous-released utilities that enable Mac users to get the most from their iPod. The suite includes Roxio’s own CD Spin Doctor, MusicMagic Mixer, Audio Hijack, iPodder X and iSpeak It. It costs US$49.95, and is available from Roxio’s Web site.
CD Spin Doctor, previously only available bundled with Roxio’s Toast CD and DVD burning software, lets users grab audio from vinyl, cassette and other analog audio sources. It incorporates noise filtering and automatic track creation. MusicMagic Mixer lets users build intelligent playlists by analyzing the actual soundwave of each audio file. Audio Hijack lets users grab audio from virtually any application on their Mac, including streaming audio from RealPlayer and Windows Media Player. iPodder X is a podcast management utility that lets you browse, subscribe to and download podcasts from around the Web. iSpeak It converts text files into spoken word audio files to let you listen to them on the go.
System requirements for the Boom Box call for Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later, iTunes 4.7 or later, 50MB hard disk space, 1GB of free hard drive space for usage by applications, stereo cable and audio line-in capability for input from CD Spin Doctor and an iPod.
