SolidWorks maker Dassault Systèmes’ Cosmic Blobs v1.1 is now available. The software is a 3D modeling program for Mac OS X and Windows especially designed for kids; it’s available for the first time on the Mac.
The software lets kids ages 7 to 14 sculpt, decorate and animate 3D computer models called “Blobs.” Starting with those basic shapes, kids can use built-in tools to bend, pull, stretch and sculpt their own creations, decorating them with colors, textures and decals, then animating them.
If you’ve already seen the Windows version, the new 1.1 release — again, the first release for the Mac — touts an improved user interface, new decals and textures, downloadable bonus content and the ability to export movies.
Cosmic Blobs requires Mac OS X v10.3 or later a G4/1.25GHz or faster processor and 256MB RAM. It costs US$44.95. It’s available for online purchase now; it will be available on the shelves of Apple retail stores beginning in July.
