Targus Inc., best known for its laptop computer cases and accessories, on Tuesday announced a new accessory line for Apple’s iPod and iPod mini. Targus’ iPod products include cases, a wireless remote and a sound-enhancing amplifier.
New products include the Slide case for iPod and iPod mini — available in three sizes for the iPod mini, iPod third and fourth-generation models and iPod photo. The Slide Case clips onto a belt or bag and has two pieces. The iPod slides into the top piece, which then slips into the belt clip piece. You can let the case face in or out for access to the iPod’s controls. Made of black leather and outfitted with a soft scratch-resistant lining, the case includes an iPod screen protector. It costs US$29.95.
The Flip Case for iPod and iPod mini is also available in three sizes, and is designed to be worn on a belt while offering complete protection for the iPod. The front flips down for easy iPod control access. Made of black leather, the Flip Case also comes with a belt clip and iPod screen protector. It costs US$29.95.
RemoteTunes uses Radio Frequency (RF) technology to communicate wirelessly with the iPod, and works up to 150 feet away. And since it’s RF-based, the device works through walls as well. RemoteTunes lets users control volume, fast forward, reverse, advance/previous track, play and pause functions. The remote is water-resistant and can be attached to a belt or key chain. It also comes with a tabletop stand and remote cable. RemoteTunes costs $49.99.
SoundUP is billed as a “high definition sound enhancer” for the iPod and iPod mini. Targus claims the amplifier improves the quality of vocals and instruments by creating a more full crisp sound. SoundUP can also be used as a headphone splitter, and includes a remote pass-through to allow it to be used with RemoteTunes or Apple’s own wired remote. It costs US$39.99.
