Square Box Systems Ltd. dovetailed their announcement about the release of their media cataloging software CatDV 4.0 with the introduction of a new video capture product for Mac OS X called Live Capture Plus v1.0. The software transfers video images from DV tapes onto a computer. Live Capture Plus costs US$49 and requires Mac OS X v10.3 or higher.
Able to work as a standalone application or integrated with CatDV 4.0, Live Capture Plus captures an entire Digital Video (DV) tape unattended, splitting files automatically on scene boundaries. Live Capture Plus controls the FireWire device to pause the tape if the compression queue fills up or to back up the tape and retry if any errors are detected. It’ll also rewind a tape back to the beginning once it’s done.
Live Capture Plus can record files as full-quality DV QuickTime movies and will also compress them to any other QuickTime-supported format, including H.264 when used with QuickTime 7. Integrated with CatDV 4.0, Live Capture Plus will automatically build a tape index with thumbnails and previews.
