Maya maker Alias on Wednesday said it is shipping its previously-announced
SketchBook Pro 2, a new version of the paint and drawing application for Mac OS X and Windows. SketchBook Pro 2 costs US$199. A trial version is available for download. Users of the first version can upgrade for $79 electronically or $99 on disc.
SketchBook Pro 2 provides artists with paint and drawing features through a “gesture-based” user interface. Key to the software is “Marking Menus” technology that provides users with access to sketching tools built in to the software.
New to this release are enhanced brush controls, support for an unlimited number of image layers, broader support for image types including BMP, GIF, JPG and PNG, and the ability to save layered Photoshop files, the ability to import images into a layer stack, lasso select tool, interactive brush resize, image and canvas resize, and support for up to 75 brushstroke or action undos and redos.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3 or later, G4 or better with 256MB RAM, 1024 x 768 display with hardware accelerated graphics with at least 32MB VRAM, pressure-sensitive tablet and pen recommended.
