ThinkFree Inc. has announced the pending release of
ThinkFree Office 3, a Java-based office productivity software suite. The initial release this week supports Microsoft Windows, though a Mac OS X version is in the works and is expected to be released this summer. ThinkFree Office 3 will cost US$49. Upgrades from previous versions cost $29.95.
New features in ThinkFree Office 3 include the ability to save in PDF format, more compatible fonts, an improved user interface and XML support for word processing and spreadsheet documents.
The software boasts “two-way compatibility” with files produced using Microsoft’s Office software. It includes word processor (“Write”), spreadsheet (“Calc”) and presentation graphics (“Show”) software, and the Mac version will come bundled with Windows-compatible fonts, according to the developer. Users can produce charts, check spelling in real-time and export documents in HTML format. ThinkFree Office 3 also features multi-language support including English, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese and Chinese.
System requirements for ThinkFree Office 3 will call for Mac OS X v10.3 or later with Java 1.4.2 Update 2 or later and a G4 or better CPU.
Thinkfree Inc. will be attending next month’s Macworld Conference & Expo in Boston, Mass. Look for them at booth 325.
