Interested in upgrading a legacy Mac with a faster processor?
on Thursday announced price drops on its XLR8 MAChSpeed G4 ZIF upgrades. These CPU upgrades are designed to enhance the performance of Power Mac G3-era computers by replacing their CPUs with a new model designed to work faster than the original and that uses “G4” Altivec technology.
The MAChSpeed G4 ZIF upgrades are available in 466, 500, 550 and 600MHz varieties for $99, $129, $159 and $179 respectively. That’s down from $149, $179, $189 or $199 originally.
The CPU upgrades include tools and instructions, and are compatible with any Mac OS release from 8.6 to Tiger, according to Daystar. Software includes the Xpostfacto utility for Mac OS X and Daystar’s own XLR MAChSpeed Control utility.
