Daystar Technology on Thursday revealed that it’s “completing development” of a new CPU upgrade for flat-panel iMac G4 systems. Dubbed the MAChSpeed iMFP G4, the CPU upgrade will bring a 700 or 800MHz iMac G4 to 1.35GHz, according to the company. The MAChSpeed iMFP G4 is scheduled to ship on July 28, 2005. Daystar expects to offer pricing and final specifications closer to the release date.
Users interested in the upgrade will need to send their machines to Daystar to have it done, according to the company, which offers similar services for users of “Lombard” and “Pismo”-era PowerBook G3 systems. Daystar claims that xBench benchmark scores went from “low 70s” to “over 130” with the upgraded CPU in place. The upgrades support Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger,” and are offered with a warranty as well.
