MaxUpgrades.com has introduced MaxConnect, an internal hard disk drive mounting solution for Power Mac G5 systems that allows up to seven additional hard drives to be installed.
MaxUpgrades.com claims the system can provide an 8x increase in data transfer speeds over a single-drive-equipped system when used with Mac OS X’s own RAID software utility. That software allows users to RAID multiple drives together using striping, or RAID Level 0, which increases performance by spreading data among multiple hard disk drive mechanisms.
MaxUpgrades.com’s MaxConnect system consists of two mounting assemblies: A mounting assembly that’s inserted into the Power Mac G5’s optical bay area, allowing four additional hard disk drives to be installed, and a CPU bay disk drive mounting assembly, that enables you to install three more drives in the Power Mac G5’s CPU bay. They’re available separately for $199 and $129, or together for $319. Power cables are included.
