Runtime Revolution Ltd. has introduced ArcadeEngine, a games programming tool for Revolution that can also be used to add animations to multimedia program using Revolution. Demos for all major platforms are available, including Mac OS X. ArcadeEngine costs US$49, but it’s bundled free with Revolution Dreamcard.
ArcadeEngine provides advanced collision detection and complex motion paths capabilities. Features include functions and handlers to manage linear, polygonal, circular and elliptical movement, the ability to start and start action using scripts like object speed and movement, parallax-style effects and more.
Billed as “software design and programming for the rest of us,” Dreamcard enables users to create applications that manipulate text, illustrations, digital images and movies using a visual interface scripting language and more. You can extend your Dreamcard stacks to other applications and documents too. It cost $99. Revolution is the company’s pro-level application design and programming environment; prices start at $299.
