Aspyr Media Inc. has announced plans to release a patch to its Macintosh conversion of Battlefield 1942. The 1.6.1 Rev D patch will be released on Thursday through Macgamefiles.com.
The new patch adds support for the Desert Combat Final and Extended “mods,” developed by Trauma Studios. Mods extend an original games’ gameplay by providing new maps, artworks, weapons and occasionally physics models, and like Desert Combat, they’re often developed by third parties.
Desert Combat specifically takes the action of Battlefield 1942 — a game that emphasizes multiplayer arena-based combat featuring weapons and vehicles in the World War II era — to the modern age, focusing on conflicts in the Middle East.
Also new in the forthcoming patch from Aspyr is built-in support for GameRanger, for finding Mac-specific multiplayer games.
