More than 1.5 million users have signed up for paid subscriptions to the Chinese version of the “World of Warcraft” online game since its introduction last month, according to the online game’s operator.
“World of Warcraft” is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that was developed by U.S. game developer Blizzard Entertainment Inc. The game is played online and users pay a subscription to participate. The Chinese version of “World of Warcraft” is operated by The9 Ltd., which licenses the game from Blizzard.
The addition of 1.5 million Chinese users brings the total number of “World of Warcraft” worldwide subscribers to more than 3.5 million, according to Blizzard. In addition to China, the game is available in South Korea, North America and Europe, it said.
Blizzard plans to roll out “World of Warcraft” in other Asian countries, including Taiwan, it said.
