Ranchero Software has released NetNewsWire 2.0.1, an update to their RSS and Atom newsreader for Mac OS X. The new release gains support for Atom 1.0 feeds, fixes a couple of crashing bugs and updates the Sites drawer. A free update for registered users, NetNewswire costs US$24.95 for a single-user license.
NetNewsWire lets you subscribe to and arrange newsfeeds using a familiar three-paned interface similar to Apple mail. You can search with a standard search interface; you can also subscribe to podcasts and receive enclosures. Atom is an XML-based Web content and metadata syndication format popular in some circles — NetNewsWire already supports — and will continue to support — the Atom 0.3 specification.
Also updated is NetNewsWire Lite, the freeware version, which also gains Atom 1.0 support.
