Rogue Amoeba Software LLC on Monday announced the release of Nicecast v1.8, its live music broadcasting tool for Mac OS X. The new version adds major new features like stream password protection, listener kicking, Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) and NAT-PMP support, and more. A free update for registered users, the software can be registered for US$40.
Nicecast v1.8’s support of UPnP and Network Address Translation Port Mapping Protocol (NAT-PMP) routers make it easier to reconfigure for outside listeners — those protocols are alternately supported by newer hardware made by LinkSys, Netgear and Apple. Nicecast also automatically blocks unwanted search engine robots from tuning in, according to the developers.
Also new in this release is an Application Mixer Effects plug-in, useful for pulling audio from multiple applications, the System Audio input source option for grabbing audio and more. System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3 or later. A demo version is available for download.
