Griffin Technology Inc. on Friday introduced its iFM. The device adds FM radio tuning to your Apple iPod, remote control and the ability to record audio — FM radio signals and voice recording. The iFM will cost US$49.99 when it ships in August.
The iFM works with third and fourth-generation iPods, iPod photos and iPod mini models, though some features are limited depending on which iPod you’re using.
The iFM, clad in aluminum, touts a white backlit LCD panel that shows the frequency it’s tuned to and its operating mode. The device features digital auto station scan with wraparound; band-switch to support FM radio stations in the US, Europe and Japan. You can save six station presets per band. The remote controls play, pause, fast forward, rewind, next song, previous song and volume functions on the iPod.
The recorder’s time is limited only by the amount of space on your iPod. It can be used to record FM radio content to your iPod, and the iFM also has an omnidirectional microphone that can be used to record voice memos. It also features “one touch” start and stop recording when used with “Click Wheel” iPods and iPod photos.
The iFM’s radio capabilities and remote control are supported on all third- and fourth-generation iPods, iPod photos and iPod mini models. The FM and voice recording capabilities are limited to third- and fourth-generation iPods and iPod photos. The one-touch recording is limited specifically to fourth-generation iPods and iPod photos.
