Mark/Space Inc. on Friday announced the release of The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile v 2.0, software that lets users synchronize data between Macs and like Windows Mobile Pocket PC handheld computers and smartphones. The download version costs US$39.95; upgrades from the previous release, called The Missing Sync for Pocket PC, cost $19.95.
Changes in this release include support for Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger,” with support for the new Sync Services technology in Tiger. This allows users to sync Address Book and iCal data directly with their Windows Mobile device. Also added is sync support for Microsoft’s Entourage software.
The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile uses Microsoft’s Pocket Outlook Object Model (POOM) to manipulate information, according to Mark/Space. This improves performance and enables “round trip” synchronization between a Windows PC running Outlook to a Windows Mobile device to a Mac and back again.
SyncMinder reminds users that it’s time to sync. The software can also synchronize data wirelessly, over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. And the software features a new plug-in architecture that should make it easier for third-party developers to create sync plug-ins for their own Mac and handheld applications.
If you bought The Missing Sync for Pocket PC on or after April 1, 2005, you’re eligible for a free upgrade. And if you want it on CD, it will cost $10 more — $49.95 — when it’s released later this summer.
