Axis Communications has introduced what it calls the “world’s smallest MPEG-4 network camera.” At about the size of a deck of cards, the camera is designed for indoor surveillance and remote monitoring applications, according to the company. Axis says that unlike Web cameras, the AXIS 207 operates independently of a computer and contains a built-in Web server. This enables users to access live images from anywhere in the world via the Internet. The camera provides full-motion video (up to 30 frames a second) using MPEG-4 compression or Motion JPEG video streaming. It also contains a built-in microphone that enables users to hear visitors. The camera will be available this month for US$349.
