Seaside, Calif.-based The Sound Guy Inc., maker of the SFX Machine plug-in line, has released PlayLyrix, a new Mac OS X utility that searches your iTunes collection and compares it to a lyrics database, then creates a new playlist of songs that contain specified words or phrases. It costs US$5 and requires Mac OS X v10.3 or later and iTunes 4.5 or later.
PlayLyrix is handy for creating a playlist of songs that reflect moods or themes — birthdays, for example, or holidays or other special occasions. The utility can also be used to create a list of songs that contain lyrics or words you’re searching for which you don’t already have in your library — you can then purchase the song from the iTunes Music Store. A demo is available.
