British audiophile speaker maker Monitor Audio’s new i-deck system is designed to turn your Apple iPod into a full-blown hi-fi stereo system. The system features a wireless remote control, two speakers, and various connectors to fit different dock connector-equipped iPod models. The i-deck costs £249.99 (US$444.61).
The system features two-way speakers that use 4-inch bass and midrange drivers and 14mm gold-coated polymer ring dome tweeters. The enclosures themselves are manufactured from rigid ABS-loaded polymer. The remote control lets you change volume, track, power on and off, and play and pause.
The replaceable bezel inserts on the front of the i-deck accept third and fourth-generation iPods, iPod photos and iPod minis — any iPods with a dock connector. When inserted, the iPods will charge their batteries. A lit blue LED indicates the i-deck is operating.
What’s more, the i-deck features a pass-through dock connector port that lets you connect your i-deck, with iPod equipped, to a Mac or PC. An auxiliary line input also accepts audio from any device equipped with a 3.5mm stereo mini jack, such as a portable CD player.
