PowerLogix on Tuesday introduced its 2.0GHz single-processor PowerForce G4, a CPU upgrade card for Power Mac G4 systems that uses Freescale’s 7447A CPU. The card features 512K of on board Level 2 cache and costs US$399.
The CPU touts an on-board thermal sensor and real-time thermal monitoring. It also supports Dynamic Frequency Shifting (DFS), a technique that lets the CPUu operate at reduced power usage.
The upgrade works with Power Mac G4 AGP Sawtooth, Gigabit Ethernet, Digital Audio, QuickSilver and QuickSilver 2002 models. It’s compatible with Mac OS 9.x and Mac OX v10.3.5 or higher. Thermal monitoring and DFS features require Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later.
OWC makes 7447A upgrades clocked at 1.8GHz for $339, and also makes dual-processor models clocked at 1.2 to 1.8GHZ starting at $419.
