Over the Edge, makers of the game engine Unity, have announced the Unity Dashboard Widget Challenge. The contest features prizes for developers who come up with Tiger Dashboard Widgets using Unity, which features integrated Dashboard Widget development support. The contest’s deadline is August 22nd, 2005.
Unity lets users create sophisticated 3D games — it’s the core technology that powers Ambrosia Software’s game GooBall, for example. WidgetMonkeys.com has used it to create Widgets; one of Over the Edge’s employees created the Don’t Fall Over The Edge Widget game using Unity, as well.
Three competition categories include the “Grand Prix of the Jury,” “The People’s Love Ballot” and “The Project Files of Deep Wisdom.” The Grand Prix winner receives a license of Unity Pro and an ATI Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition graphics card. The winner of the People’s Love Ballot gets a license of Unity Indie and an ATI Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition graphics card, as well. The “Project Files of Deep Wisdom” winner gets a license for Unity Indie, and the five best entrants also receive a copy of GooBall.
What’s more, all participants whose widgets are accepted as competition entries get a 15 percent rebate coupon good for a Unity license, and the runner up in each category gets an Inside Mac Games Pro subscription.
