Petaluma, Calif.-based BIAS Inc. has announced the release of Peak Pro 5, a new version of its audio recording, editing, mastering and delivery software for Mac OS X. New features in this release include a revamped Playlist feature, replication-ready CD burning, Audio Unit support in Vbox and more. Peak Pro costs US$599, and $179 to upgrade.
Other new features in this release include a graphic waveform view in the Playlist that can feature staggered or linear views optimized for Quartz. The Playlist also features unlimited undo and redo, support for keyboard-triggerable controls for auditioning and nudging and more.
For audio engineers reading songs for output to CD replication facilities, Peak Pro 5 supports ISRC entry, DDP file export, writing CD track indexes, PQ subcode editing, CD-Text and other features that conform to the full redbook spec.
DSP algorithms have been improved, and new DSP items have been added. A new high-resolution “Tape Style Scrubbing” feature works through Core Audio support. The Batch File Processor can save file resolution and type. A new Recover Audio File feature can fix some damaged files. Many other new features have been added as well.
According to Bias, Peak Pro 5 also includes a special trial edition of Minnetonka Audio’s discWelder Bronze DVD-Audio disc burning software. With discWelder, Peak Pro 5 users will be able to burn up to 5 high-resolution DVD-A discs at no additional charge. Peak Pro users will also have the opportunity to purchase the full edition of discWelder Bronze at a special price from Minnetonka.
System requirements call for a G3/400MHz or faster, Mac OS X v10.3.9 or higher, minimum 1024 x 640 screen resolution, 256MB RAM, 330MB hard disk drive space with 18ms or faster seek time; QuickTime 6.0 or later. ImpulseVerb requires a G4 or better.
