PowerLogix on Tuesday announced new PowerForce G4 CPU upgrade cards for Power Mac G4 systems. The PowerForce G4 cards use Freescale’s PowerPC 7447A CPUs, and are available in single and dual-CPU configurations for US$299 and $499 respectively.
The new PowerForce G4 upgrade cards feature on-board thermal sensors and real-time thermal monitoring. They also support Dynamic Frequency Switching (DFS), which PowerLogix claims can reduce the power demand for the card. They come with CPU Director, a software utility that provides real-time graphical temperature data.
The upgrade cards work with Power Mac G4 AGP (Sawtooth), Gigabit Ethernet, Digital Audio, Quicksilver and QuickSilver 2002 models. They’re compatible with Mac OS 9.x and Mac OS X v10.3.5 or later (10.3.9 or later is required for thermal monitoring and DFS).
