Fastmac on Monday announced that it’s shipping a battery upgrade for Apple’s fourth-generation “Click Wheel” equipped iPod models that last 20 to 70 percent longer than the original battery, and can tolerate to 7.5 times as many charge cycles. The new batteries cost US$29.95; if you want Fastmac to install it for you, they offer the service for an additional $39.95.
The new battery uses “TruePower” technology, which Fastmac claims slows the degradation of power cells inside the battery, and allows it to run cooler and longer. Fastmac offers the batteries with a two year warranty, and includes non-scratch installation tools and instructions.
Twenty-four hour installation is also offered as an option; through that $39.95 service, Fastmac has courier service DHL send you a box, pick up the unit, and return it to you — Fastmac guarantees that it will install the battery “and provide a light clean up” of your iPod within 24 hours.
