PayPal co-founder and former CTO Max Levchin today introduced Slide, a new desktop software application that indexes photos on your hard drive, groups them into channels and plays then back via an “always-on” ticker interface. Currently in public beta for Windows, a Mac OS X version is also in the works.
Users can also create public channels that other users can view. Public channels, which can also include content from Slide business partners, involve semi-pro photography, RSS feeds of photo blogs, product catalogs and more. Slide works beyond just photos, as well — it supports video, music and other rich media types.
The scrolling “photo playback” of the ticker interface shows users images they’d rarely see otherwise; they can then share them with friends and family. Access controls allow users to manage privacy as well.
