MediaDex has released MediaDex 1.0, its digital asset management software. System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3 or later, 130MB hard disk space, 128MB RAM and QuickTime 6 or later. Available in Standard and Professional versions, Mediadex is available for US$49.95 and $79.95 respectively. A demo version is available from the Web site.
MediaDex is based on Canto’s Cumulus Single User product, which the company acquired from Canto in July. MediaDex captures metadata file information associated with digital files like images, layouts, multimedia, video, audio and text. It can organize that cataloged data into categories and collections. It features quick search and keyword, metadata and Boolean search queries. You can share images using slideshow features or as Web-based albums on static HTML pages.
The basic functionality of the Standard and Professional versions is the same, according to MediaDex, though the Professional version adds support for Microsoft Office documents and digital camera proprietary RAW formats.
