Seattle, Wash.-based Spiderweb Software has announced
Avernum 4, a new fantasy role-playing game for Mac and Windows users. It’s due out in early 2006 and will cost US$25, or $32 if bundled with a hint book.
Avernum 4 brings you back to an underground world populated by a race of people who mine tunnels, pits and caverns away from the rule of the Empire. Avernum is also populated by magical creatures, monsters and beasts, and they’ve taken over the cities, wandering and killing at random. What’s worse, the normally peaceful citizens of Avernum have been afflicted with a problem that makes them unpredictable and dangerous. It’s up to you to discover who has attacked Avernum and for what reason, and to stop them.
Spiderweb Software is well-known to computer RPG fans for their long-running Exile series. While previous installments of Avernum have been remakes of the Exile games, Avernum 4 is a totally original creation. Despite its sequel status, Avernum 4 doesn’t require familiarity with the other installments in order to enjoy, according to its developer.
