Storage peripheral maker LaCie on Monday introduced its Biggest S1S, a 4-bay RAID solution that uses Serial ATA (SATA) drive technology. The company also rolled out their new Ethernet Disk with Gigabit — previously the Ethernet Disk was only available with 10/100baseT Ethernet.
The Biggest S1S will be vailable later this month. Physically the same as LaCie’s F800 drive chassis, the Biggest S1S system uses SATA hard disk drive mechanisms that can transfer data at up to 80MB per second in RAID 0 configurations. The 4-bay RAID system is priced at US$1,699 for a 1TB configuration and $3,199 for a 2TB configuration. It works without requiring any drivers and features hot-swappable drives. It can be configuredd in RAID Level 0, 0+1, 5 and 5+hot spare formats. The device also features audible alarms to notify you of any drive failure or rebuilding events.
LaCie’s Ethernet Disk is a Network Attached Storage (NAS) solution designed for home offices and small to medium sized businesses looking for shared networkable storage. It’s housed in an aluminum chassis that’s rack mountable. It features four USB 2.0 ports that can be used to expand capacity; a built-in firewall application, data access via SMB, AFP v3.1, HTTP or FTP, backup scheduling and more. The new Ethernet Disk with Gigabit provides 1000baseT Ethernet support and is available in 500GB, 1TB and 2TB confiugrations for $649.99, $999.99 and $2,299.99 respectively. All configurations are available now.
