St. Clair Software has released a free update to its Open and Save dialog utility, Default Folder, bringing the current version to 2.0.3. The update addresses compatibility issues including a bug that could cause the Finder to repeatedly crash after installing Apple’s QuickTime 7.0.2 update. In some cases, other applications such as BBEdit and Interarchy could also be affected. The new version also fixed an issue with the Default Folder X preference pane failing when a user’s login item list was in an inconsistent state. This could result in Default Folder X’s preference file becoming damaged, an inability to select Default Folder X in System Preferences, or general instability. Default Folder X costs US$34.95.
