Fujitsu on Monday announced the ScanSnap for Mac OS X — the first scanner it’s made that’s Mac-compatible, according to the company. The ScanSnap is a scanner aimed at business users, designed to scan documents. The device is available for US$495.
The ScanSnap measures 5.9 x 11.2 x 5.7 inches and connects to the Mac using USB 2.0. The ScanSnap incorporates a 50-page automatic document feeder (ADF), and features “always-on” ScanSnap software that lets you get started as soon as you have paper in the scanner’s feeder. The ScanSnap uses a 600 dot per inch (DPI) optical array and can scan in color or black and white, single or double-sided documents. Fujitsu rates the ScanSnap’s speed at 15 pages per minute (PPM) for single-sided documents and 30 images per minute (IPM) for double-sided documents.
Bundled with Adobe’s Acrobat 7.0 Standard software, the ScanSnap produces PDF documents that can be password-protected, searched, combined from multiple files into single documents and more.
Other features of the ScanSnap include automatic color detection, blank page detection and deletion, automatic paper size detection, automatic image de-skew” and more.
