Macintosh security software maker Intego on Tuesday introduced new version of its Personal Backup X and VirusBarrier X software for Mac OS X. Both software features enhancements and new capabilities. Both products will ship in the fourth calendar quarter of 2005.
Personal Backup X is a backup, synchronization and volume cloning solution for Mac OS X. The new X4 release features faster (up to 4 times) and more efficient backup, the ability to span multiple CDs or DVDs, a revised interface, AES 128-bit encrypted archiving, a Dashboard widget showing you backup status, pre-defined scripts for music, movies and more, Spotlight search results, an iCal calendar and more.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later, 40MB free hard disk space and 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. Personal Backup X4 costs US$69.95; upgrades from previous versions cost $44.95.
VirusBarrier X4 is a new version of Intego’s virus detection and eradication software for the Mac. It protects against Microsoft Word and Excel macro viruses and viruses that target Windows systems; it cleans infected files and applications on CD-ROMs, DVDs, removable media and files downloaded off the Internet or over a network.
New features in VirusBarrier X4 include a new interface, e-mail analysis on send and receive, Dashboard widgets, the ability to define a “secure zone” for files, new log and schedule management, heuristic and behavioral analyses, a “Trojan activity sensor” that can detect if any new fils have been created, the ability to open and disinfect files on locked volumes and more.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later, 40MB free hard disk space and 800 x 600 pixel resolution. VirusBarrier X4 is also priced at $69.95, with upgrades from older versions costing $44.95.
