OmniPilot Software Inc. on Tuesday announced the release of Lasso Professional 8.1, a new version of their Web application development tool. More than 100 changes and 19 new tags have been added to this version, with a specific emphasis on speed and performance. A free update for Lasso Professional 8 users, Lasso Professional 8.1 costs US$649.
Lasso Professional uses a “build once, deploy anywhere” philosophy. The software lets you build Web applications and connect them to databases including Oracle, MySQL, ODBC and JDBC-based systems, hosting them on various supported Web server platforms. The Lasso Dynamic Markup Language (LDML) can be embedded in Web pages and scripts to serve dynamic applications. Lasso supports industry standards including XML, SOAP, WSDL, J2EE and Java Beans.
Operations on binary data and character strings in Lasso Professional 8.1 have been optimized, document caching has been improved and security and configuration settings are streamlined. Lasso now handles data from a wider range of Web browsers. Sessions are now held in memory before being archived to a SQLite database.
Lasso Professional 8.1 also touts improved compatibility with FileMaker data sources, supports the new multilingual capabilities of MySQL 4.1 and more. Many customer requests have been added, addressing encryption and SSL certificate handling, POP and SMTP e-mail handling and more.
