West Des Moines, Iowa-based Startly Technologies LLC on Thursday introduced Docktopus 1.0. The utility adds functionality to the Dock in Mac OS X by allowing you to overlay custom “badges.” Docktopus costs US$19.95 and requires a 500MHz or faster CPU and Mac OS X v10.4 or later.
The badges created by Docktopus can contain information like an application’s CPU or memory usage and upcoming iCal events. You can use Docktopus to access commonly used files and nested folders, Quickeys shortcuts, AppleScripts and Automator workflows. Docktopus can display iTunes track information and cover art, and more.
Startly Technologies will also offer a Software Development Kit (SDK) for Mac OS X developers who want to create their own badges.
