Apple Computer on Friday confirmed that some Mac minis are shipping with higher than advertised specifications. The reports of the upgraded machines began appearing on the Internet this week.
“Some Mac mini systems may contain components that slightly exceed the published specifications,” said Apple in a statement provided to MacCentral. “There are no changes to the published specifications or part numbers.”
Some users have reported purchasing a 1.42GHz Mac mini and have received a 1.5GHz machine. The packaging materials and documentation still listed the computer as being the slower 1.42GHz model.
Since the packaging hasn’t been changed there is no way for consumers to know for sure when they purchase a Mac mini if they will get the older model or one of the new upgraded models.
