Seiko Instruments USA on Wednesday announced the release of a version of its Smart Label Printer (SLP) application, driver and software development kit (SDK) optimized to run on Apple’s forthcoming Intel-based Macs.
Macs using an Intel-made CPU architecture still appear a way off — Apple stands by Steve Jobs’ statement at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference that the company would introduce an Intel-based based Mac by June, 2006 — but Intel-based Developer Transition Kit hardware is already available, to authorized Mac developers.
Seiko’s Smart Label Printers are dedicated label printers that output to thermal paper labels, which can be affixed to disks, folders and other objects. They are USB-based printers available in various speeds and form factors.
The new 1.1 version of Seiko’s software also adds usability and reliability enhancements and improved bar code printing functionality. It’s not limited for use only on Intel-based Macs, though it does support them natively.
