Tokyo, Japan-based iPod accessory maker Tunewear on Thursday announced it is shipping the Boomtune mini, a new “tripod” speaker system for MP3 players, including the Apple iPod. The Boomtune is shipping for US$39.95.
The Boomtune mini outputs 1 watt per channel and operates on 1 AAA battery, which lasts for about 10 hours of playback. The speakers themselves are built into the legs of the Boomtune mini, and can operate either with legs open or closed. Each leg sports antislip rubber stoppers to keep them firmly in place on desk surfaces.
The tripod design works with any MP3 player that has a mini (3.5mm) headphone jack. Its size makes it ideally suited for the iPod shuffle, though Tunewear shows photos of the Boomtune mini demonstrated with white iPods and iPod minis as well.
The Boomtune mini is molded in white and measures 32 x 115mm.
