Adobe Systems Inc. on Monday announced Adobe InDesign Server CS2. The software is intended for system integrators and third party developers to create automated publishing solutions around Adobe’s page layout software, InDesign. It’ll be available in Fall, 2005 — pricing was not announced, but Adobe said customers could find out more through qualified third parties.
InDesign Server CS2 shares InDesign’s codebase, but has been adapted for server usage, according to Adobe. It supports scripting and custom programming controls through C++ and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP). As a result, third parties can create scripts, plug-ins and Web services that access the software.
Features include output capabilities, built-in language support, scripting Document Object Model (DOM) and Software Development Kit (SDK). It can run in multiple concurrent instances, capture errors and operates on server operating systems including Mac OS X Server v10.3 and 10.4.
