Softpress has announced the release of Freeway 4 Pro, a new version of its Web design application for Mac OS X. The new version costs US$279, with upgrades starting at $99.
Freeway is a visual Web page editor aimed at design professionals rather than Web page coders. It uses a desktop publishing metaphor, building an entire site as a single document. And like a DTP document, Freeway page layouts are held in a precise object model — an adaptive layout algorithm them calculates the best way to render your page in HTML or XHTML once you’re done.
New features in Freeway 4 Pro include full Unicode support, for the creation of multi-lingual WEb sites, output options for Transitional and Strict XHTML and advances CSS layout, with support for absolute, relative and fixed positioning, and fully hierarchical page layouts.
Also new to this release are new built-in graphic and type effects, transparency options, an internal preview that uses Apple’s WebKit technology, and support for Spotlight on Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger” systems. UI improvements have been made as well.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later. Spotlight searching requires Tiger.
