Sony on Tuesday announced the forthcoming release of its DRX-810UL/T, an external double and dual-layer DVD burner that features both FireWire and USB 2.0 interfaces. The new drive will be available in November for “less than US$150,” according to Sony. Sony’s online catalog presently lists the drive for $149.99 after a $30 mail-in rebate.
Bundled with Roxio’s Toast 6 Lite software, the DRX-810UL/T can burn 8.5GB DVD+R Double Layer (DL) discs at up to 8x speed. The drive also supports 4x DVD-R DL, 16x DVD+/-R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 48x CD-R and 32x CD-RW recording speeds. It can be stacked vertically to reduce its desktop footprint, as well.
In addition to Mac software the drive also includes a copy of Nero for Windows.
