on Tuesday announced the release of PowerSchool 5.0, a major upgrade to the Student Information System (SI) intended for the K-12 market.
PowerSchool provides school districts, teachers and parents with information and data tracking capabilities for their students, built around a Web-based interface that supports Mac and Windows operating systems. PowerSchool touts attendance, grading, lunch administration, transcript reporting and other features, all managed from a central server.
New to this release is a new relational layer on top of the SQL database used to manage PowerSchool data, providing users with instant access to content. Scalability and performance has also been improved thanks to a reengineering of the database, as well. New Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) functionality has been added, and more.
PowerSchool 5.0 will be demonstrated at the 2005 T+L2 Conference in Denver, Colo. at the Colorado Convention Center, from October 26 – 28, 2005.
