Intego on Thursday announced NetBarrier X4, a new version of its personal firewall software for Mac OS X, optimized for Tiger. Announced today, but coming in January at Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco, NetBarrier X4 costs US$69.95 for a new license, or $44.95 to upgrade. (Free upgrades are available to those who bought the software within the past 45 days.)
NetBarrier X4 features an updated user interface, and numerous improvements to most aspects of the software, including better firewall, antivandal, stop-list and trust group, anti-spyware, data, surf, traffic, services and network functions.
Many changes have been made to firewall rules and services, such as the expansion of the maximum number of them to 2 million; the ability to add rules quickly using the Services Library Palette and more; the detection of Ping Broadcasts has been separated; a permanent trusted host can be disabled; applications can be filtered on a per-port basis and much more. A Dashboard widget has also been created.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later, but certain features are only available in Tiger.
