KavaSoft has released Shoebox 1.5, an updated version of their digital photo archive management system. A free update for registered users, Shoebox costs US$29.99 for the “Express” version and $79.99 for the “Pro” version, with features for digital photo pros.
Shoebox helps digital photographers organize their photos by collections according to dates, people, places and things. It’s billed as a “complete workflow solution for managing large collections of photos.”
new to this release is the ability to catalog all photos in one central location, even if they’re stored on CD or DVD — the software stores a low-res version of the photo on your hard disk, so you can search them all at once. It also will tell you how many CDs or DVDs you need to backup your selection of photos, and remembers where the photos are on each disk. Shoebox 1.5 can also “shrink” photos by up to 1/10th of their original size, while storing the original full-resolution image elsewhere where it’s not taking up disk space.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3 or later.
