MaxUpgrades has announced the availability of MaxConnect for new PCI Express-based Power Mac G5 systems. With the MaxConnect system installed, new Power Mac G5s can handle up to seven additional internal hard disk drives.
The MaxConnect works with dual 2.0GHz, 2.3GHz and Quad 2.5GHz systems that are equipped with PCI Express expansion slots. The MaxConnect system consists of two mounting assemblies: One is an optical drive bay assembly that allows you to install up to four hard disk drives; a CPU bay assembly enables three hard drives to be installed in the CPU bay.
With the Mac’s existing support for two drives, this lifts the total number of drives you an install in your Power Mac G5 to nine. This allows you to RAID the additional drives, for example, using Apple’s Disk Utility software or third party utilities.
MaxConnect ships with optional power cables, Serial ATA (SATA) data cables and SATA controller card. Prices range from US$99 to $599 depending on what accessories you’re ordering.
