Quark on Wednesday announced the acquisition of A Lowly Apprentice Production (ALAP), a developer of plug-ins for desktop publishing software including QuarkXPress.
ALAP’s products include Imposer and Imposer Pro, XPert Tools Pro and ShadowCaster. In addition to ALAP’s products, Quark has brought on board ALAP founder Paul Schmitt as vice president of product development.
In a statement, Schmitt called the union a “strategic fit” that will yield immediate benefit from the closer collaboration in development on QuarkXPress 7 and other products in Quark’s pipeline.
Quark did not indicate how the development of ALAP products for Adobe software like InDesign and Acrobat will be affected by this move.
“For the moment, it’s business as usual for ALAP customers,” said a Quark spokesman. “All support and customer service queries for ALAP products should be directed to ALAP just as they always have.”
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
