Sonnet Technology on Wednesday introduced a new USB power adapter for fourth and fifth-generation iPods, iPod minis, iPod shuffles and iPod nanos. the $19.95 adapter is available now.
The adapter plugs into a wall outlet — it’s 100-240V, 50/60Hz for universal compatibility — and provides power to charge up the iPod’s battery without needing a computer. The iPod shuffle can connect without a cable, jacking straight into the USB plug on the adapter, and Sonnet also includes a USB to dock connector cable (valued at $19).
The blades are non-polarized, so you can stick the adapter into the wall socket right side up or upside down. The device also supports the “fast charge” capability found on some iPods. Sonnet offers them in both black and white finishes.
European versions with plugs to fit European wall sockets are coming on January 3, 2006.
